Corinna Kaufman’s art begins in the ocean. She personally gathers each piece of seaweed, selecting specimens for their color, shape, and natural character, then preserves them exactly as they are so nature’s own palette can shine. The rich reds, soft greens, and deep browns in her work are entirely natural, revealing a quiet beauty often overlooked beneath the waves.

Her connection to the sea started in childhood on Martha’s Vineyard, where she spearfished with her parents and developed a deep respect for marine life. At eleven, a simple seaweed bookmark sparked her imagination and set her on a lifelong path of experimentation and discovery.

Over the years, Corinna has refined techniques to preserve organic materials while maintaining their original forms and colors. She incorporates seaweed, tiny mussels, and shimmering silica into compositions that highlight delicate details and invite close attention. Working from her home studio without glues or artificial finishes, she relies on methods shaped by patience and experience.
